Some important fundraising news!

We are delighted to announce some absolutely fantastic fundraising news for The Other Room.

THE FOYLE FOUNDATION

Our friends at The Foyle Foundation have kindly agreed to give us £25,000, £15,000 towards the cost of the build and £10,000 towards our production costs for our first season, 'Life in Close-Up'. Their kind support has helped us to pay for the cost of converting the room, and will make sure that when the theatre arrives it has a fantastic and high spec space to go in to. We could not have pressed ahead with the build without their help.

Anstee Siluria

ANSTEE SILURIA

We can also finally announce that Anstee Siluria will be the first official sponsor of The Other Room. An unashamedly traditional (and unashamedly Welsh) pilsner that will be launching early next year! Welcome aboard guys!

And that's that, stay tuned for further news in the coming days/weeks!

We're Making Some Changes to SEEN
Mar 9 2022

We're Making Some Changes to SEEN: We’ve had some feedback from our community of artists about our monthly scratch platform, SEEN, and we really valued what they had to say. So, we have decided to throw out the old SEEN rulebook and try something new. Although exciting efforts are well underway, how The Other Room will exist in the future is still unclear. All we know is, The Other Room and Porter’s are a home for brave and bold artists who are passionate about positive change and good nights out. SEEN started as a way of lifting the lid on the writing process, what we want it to be is the gateway for discovering new voices and a platform to testing new ideas. So, we have made some changes to our upcoming SEEN programme, and we will be allowing it to evolve for the rest of the year, so when the next chapter of The Other Room begins in 2023, the hope is that SEEN will be the scratch night that Cardiff needs! To help us do this, we're open to suggestions. Let us know your thoughts, feelings, ideas and vision for what SEEN is and can be. Check out our website for more information on what changes we are making in the short term and to find out how to submit your suggestions: https://www.otherroomtheatre.com/en/get-involved/jobsopportunity/seen/ One Elephant in the room that’s worth addressing is working for free. We know there’s an industry-wide issue with creatives being asked to give their time and talents for free, especially for scratch and rehearsed reading. The difficult truth is, keeping an organisation like The Other Room alive and resourced at the moment is like forcing a square peg into a round hole. We wish we could do more to offer artists fees for SEEN, and in the future, that is our intention. But in the current climate it’s a bit out of our reach. We just wanted to be up-front and honest about that. As a registered charity we will always rely on volunteers, but we know there’s more work to do to ensure that it’s the right people volunteering. You can help us find the right way forward by engaging with the event and sending us your suggestions.
