Spring Fringe Cancellations

In light of the current situation with COVID-19, we regret to announce that SEXY LAMP by Katie Arnstein (26/03 – 28/03) & SEX EDUCATION by Harry Clayton-Wright (31/03 – 04/04) have both been cancelled, with a view to rescheduling them in the future.

As touring productions, the situation is complex and delicate, and following conversations with the artists involved, The Other Room team has concluded that these performances should not take place at this stage. The safety and wellbeing of our audiences and our artists is our priority and this decision was made with everyone’s best interests at heart.

If you have already purchased tickets for either of these productions, we will be offering full refunds. If you are in a position to do so, you are more than welcome to donate the price of your ticket to the artist and the theatre. If you do, a free ticket will be made available to you should the shows be rescheduled. Please keep an eye out on your inbox as our Producer will be in contact with you shortly.

Disappointed to be missing them? Fear not. We are working closely with the artists to arrange remounts for the productions at a later date. So, watch this space.

The Other Room would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Take care of one-another and remember to wash your hands.

With love,

TOR Team x

We're Making Some Changes to SEEN
Mar 9 2022

We're Making Some Changes to SEEN: We’ve had some feedback from our community of artists about our monthly scratch platform, SEEN, and we really valued what they had to say. So, we have decided to throw out the old SEEN rulebook and try something new. Although exciting efforts are well underway, how The Other Room will exist in the future is still unclear. All we know is, The Other Room and Porter’s are a home for brave and bold artists who are passionate about positive change and good nights out. SEEN started as a way of lifting the lid on the writing process, what we want it to be is the gateway for discovering new voices and a platform to testing new ideas. So, we have made some changes to our upcoming SEEN programme, and we will be allowing it to evolve for the rest of the year, so when the next chapter of The Other Room begins in 2023, the hope is that SEEN will be the scratch night that Cardiff needs! To help us do this, we're open to suggestions. Let us know your thoughts, feelings, ideas and vision for what SEEN is and can be. Check out our website for more information on what changes we are making in the short term and to find out how to submit your suggestions: https://www.otherroomtheatre.com/en/get-involved/jobsopportunity/seen/ One Elephant in the room that’s worth addressing is working for free. We know there’s an industry-wide issue with creatives being asked to give their time and talents for free, especially for scratch and rehearsed reading. The difficult truth is, keeping an organisation like The Other Room alive and resourced at the moment is like forcing a square peg into a round hole. We wish we could do more to offer artists fees for SEEN, and in the future, that is our intention. But in the current climate it’s a bit out of our reach. We just wanted to be up-front and honest about that. As a registered charity we will always rely on volunteers, but we know there’s more work to do to ensure that it’s the right people volunteering. You can help us find the right way forward by engaging with the event and sending us your suggestions.
