New Page, The Other Room's Open Submission Programme

Overview and Aims

New Page is The Other Room's play submission programme focused on uncovering and connecting with new voices. New Page is about forging new creative partnerships and developing your skills as a writer. We want to discover unheard voices and build new relationships with people we haven’t worked with in the past. So whilst we welcome full-length submissions from established playwrights, we’re just as keen to hear from people who may have never written for stage before. If you don’t feel confident script-writing just yet, we’re equally happy to accept poems, short stories, dialogue extracts and anything else that demonstrates your talent and potential.

Our Community Engagement Officer, Yasmin Begum, will endeavour to source a minimum of 30% of the total script submissions, with the key aim to reach marginalised communities in Wales and people with protected characteristics. This 30% will be reflected in every stage of the process, from the initial submission intake to the final shortlist that reaches TOR’s Executive Team. We also want to stress that each piece of writing will be judged individually and in the context of its submission.

From August to 4th Novemebr 2020, TOR delivered this new writing submissions programme for Welsh, Wales-trained, or Wales-based writers. Every submission received personalised feedback from our dedicated team of professional Readers, and after a careful selection process, a final handful were submitted to TOR’s Executive Team.

NEW PAGE IS NOW CLOSED... but this is not the end of the story. Watch this space.

The Other Room would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who submitted a script, attended a workshop and particpated in this project. Diolch yn fawr.

This project was made possible through funding from the Arts Council of Wales’s National Lottery Fund.

Bad Wolf Productions and The Other Room have received an investment from A&B Cymru’s CultureStep to strengthen and develop their creative partnership.
