"Let's go for a drink. I don't know what I'm doing here anyway. One drink. And if you never want to see me again you never have to see me again."

Nick Payne's Constellations is a play about free will and friendship; it's about quantum multiverse theory, love and honey. One relationship. Infinite possibilities.

This Christmas, The Other Room are delighted to showcase the winners of the One Act Festival Welsh finals and their production of Constellations by Nick Payne. Constellations will be the first amateur production performed at The Other Room, and is brought to us by one of our most dedicated emerging directors, Alice Eklund.
Starting at the Glamorgan Regional Round of the One Acts Festival, this production won the 'Best Overall Production and Festival Winners' and 'The Best Individual Comedy Performance'. After winning the Wales Final at Theatr Clwyd, Mold; Constellations went on to win the 'Best Overall Production', 'Best Individual Performance: awarded jointly to Andrew Machin as "Roland" & Kimberley Littlechild as "Marianne"' and the 'Lon David Memorial Award for Best Director'. The production went on to represent Wales at the British Final of One Act Plays in Harrogate Theatre.
Alice started her professional career at The Other Room as Assistant Director to Artistic Director Dan Jones on 'The Awkward Years' by Matthew Bulgo. She's gone on to assist and Stage Manage a number of shows in the last year such as 'A Night in the Clink' by Papertrail/Sherman Cymru, 'Mission Control' by Hijinx and National Theatre Wales, and most recently with The Other Room; 'Hela' by Mari Izzard. She has this to say:

"I can't thank TOR enough for all of the opportunities and guidance that I have had from them over the last year and can't wait to present Constellations at a theatre that means so much to me. Special thanks to The Unknown Theatre Company for their support in getting this project up on its feet."

Artistic Director, Dan Jones has the following to say:

"The Other Room is a training ground for emerging artists. We take big risks by putting fresh talent toe-to-toe with established artists working at the top of their game. We exist to bridge the gap between the fringe scene, higher education and the established professional world; and each year we are pushing those parameters further and further. Constellations is a first for The Other Room. Nick Payne's play is a truly magical one, and Alice's production has achieved wonderful things. The Other Room are incredibly proud to be giving something back to a dedicated artists like Alice, and to be hosting her company for their Cardiff debut. So come join us and take a punt on a company at their humble beginnings."

Constellations premiered at the Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in January 2012. It transferred to the Duke Of York's Theatre, London, in November, and was awarded the Evening Standard award for Best New Play 2012.
This amateur production of Constellations is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH LTD a Concord Theatricals Company.
