Alun Saunder's beautiful script is not just bilingual, he also explores street language and bravado. Excellent direction and movement and a wonderful karaoke section allows the play to soar… This is a gem of a coming-of-age play, sincere and funny, highly recommended”

A Good Clean Heart
By Alan Saunders

A Good Clean Heart, was the writing debut of Alun Saunders. It was a bilingual production, that used integrated and English language access for non-Welsh-speaking audiences. It was an example of how Welsh and English can coexist on stage in a dynamic and creatively inspiring way, using access to enhance the story instead of being a satellite to the action on stage. This would lay the foundations for The Other Room’s vision for Welsh Language and bilingual work.

Alun and Mared Swain (director) would go on to form Neaontopia and revive A Good Clean Heart, touring the play across Wales, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and beyond.

Director: Mared Swain

Cast: James Ifan, Dorian Simpson (later Oliver Wellington with Neontopia)
