Try Your Art Out
As The Other Room emerged from COVID, we entered our most uncertain time ever. We knew the lease was coming to an end, but the exact date it came to and end, thankfully, was to be pushed back and back. This enabled us to complete the ‘Writings on the Wall’ season, but there was still something missing. What was missing was the emerging voices of local talent, that had been starved of opportunity since the pandemic. Having reflected over the past 2 years of the pandemic, we recognised that if it was not TOR taking the risk, who else would / could?
In the spirit of challenging access barriers, and providing professional development opportunity, we announced ‘Try Your Art Out’ a season of curated small-scale work by local artists. We welcomed submissions from absolutely everyone, providing their work was not mean spirited or hateful, and that the dates worked, they would get a place in the season.
The season was such a success, that we will be introducing ‘Try Your Art Out’ as a rolling part of our programme when we establishes a new home; and what’s more, one of the productions that stood out, has since been produced by The Other Room.
