“When it was first announced that the Other Room would have to vacate its current site, many of the headlines noted that it would be replaced by Wales’s tallest building. What is most beguiling about Idle, They Yammer is that it resists the urge to be a didactic metaphor for the continuous churn of central Cardiff. Instead it blossoms into something far more elegiac and affecting: a testament to the compulsion to keep building, even as the world falls apart, and to carving out spaces in the dark where stories continue to be told, and told again”

Idle, They Yammer
by Matthew Trevannion
Idle, they Yammer saw the return of All But Gone writer Matthew Trevannion. Idle, They Yammer was the last production to be presented in the version of The Other Room
Idle, They Yammer is an ode to hard graft, a metaphysical conversation between people trapped by the very thing they've spent their entire lives building. Returning to the theatre of the absurd for the first time since the Insomnia Season, 2016, Idle, They Yammer paid homage to all the work form the beginning of The Other Room. From lovesickness, violence, insomnia, and the outliers (with an obligatory eye gouge referencing Blasted), Idle, They Yammer was the final reckoning at The Other Room in its current home, a direct comment on our present situation and context, and a statement of intent for what will come next.
